I received a call from a sweepstakes company stating I had won second prize ($450,000). They were sending a carrier to my residence the next day with a bank check. I needed to provide proper ID. I had to pay a 1% insurance fee ($4,500) but they would give me a discount to ($2,500). I told them this is a scam and that I don't have $2,500 in my back pocket. I hung up.

This might be a merchant services company trying to plant the seed in your head to accept credit cards by acting like they are just some random person who will only do business with you if you will accept credit cards. The call went like this: "Do you accept credit cards?" I said no, and they said "I'm sorry for wasting your time," and hung up. I tried calling them back to say that I do take Paypal (which I only use if my clients leave town without leaving a check), and the number was not valid. The machine said "this number is not in service." I know I called the right number back because I just returned the call on my cell phone caller ID, and I tried it several times. Credit card processing is not customary in my line of work so a call like this from a real potential client is unlikely.

A man that called himself Larry called me about an ad I placed on Craigslist for a lost wedding ring. The ring was lost in Wisconsin.
Larry who said he's a truck driver claimed he was driving truck from Rhinelander WI to Reno NV and bought it at a truck stop for $200.00 and wanted to get it back to me.
I asked him for a picture of it and he said he didn't have a camera phone. So I offered to fly to Reno to meet him and pay a large reward.
He said his boss was calling and he'd call me right back. 2 days later I called the number and got a recording that the phones owner doesn't allow incoming calls.
Obviously a scam artist and I will contact the Reno police department and file charges for internet fraud. I'll pursue this to the end.
